Prof. Bob Malloy has been on the faculty at UMass Lowell since 1987, became a full professor in 1995 and chair of the university's highly regarded plastics engineering department in 2002.
From 1980-82, he was a professor of plastics technology at the Algerian Petroleum Institute in Annaba, Algeria. And from 1991-96 he also served as an external examiner for the Singapore Polytechnic Institute's chemical process technology department in Singapore.
He currently teaches courses on the subjects of plastics processing and plastic product design and is an active researcher and consultant in the areas of thermoplastic processing, tool design, plastic part design and plastics recycling. Malloy has written a book on the subject of plastic part design for injection molding, is the author of more than a dozen U.S. and European patents and has been published extensively in technical and industry journals .
He is a member of a number of engineering societies, including the American Society of Engineering Education and the Society of Plastics Engineers, and is a past chairman of SPE's injection molding division. He was founding editor of SPE's Journal of Injection Molding Technology and served as its chief editor from 1997-2001.
Malloy also studied at UMass, earning both his bachelor's degree in plastics engineering in 1979 and his Ph.D. in polymer science the following year from the Lowell institution.
