Robert Munns, a former systems engineering executive for auxiliary equipment maker AEC Inc., died Feb. 11. He was 77.
Munns, a longtime member in the Plastics Pioneers Association and the Society of Plastics Engineers, was active in editing and publishing PPA's newsletter and served as membership chair. An SPE member since 1959, he was named senior member emeritus.
Munns, a native of Springfield, Mass., earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1953. During the summer in his college years, he set up and ran injection molding presses, and machines for compression and transfer molding.
After college, he worked in sales and technical positions at several resin and machinery companies, including a division of Hoover Universal Inc., making structural foam molding machines, Universal Dynamics Corp. and Polymer Machinery Corp.
His longest stint was at AEC in Wood Dale, Ill., where he held a number of positions, including regional sales manager and vice president and product manager of materials-handing equipment. When he retired from AEC in 1995, Munns was vice president of systems engineering.
After leaving AEC, he started a consulting business, Munns Group. The former Glastonbury resident lived in Clearwater, Fla. He was buried in Glastonbury.
