Nypro Inc. will exhibit at NPE2009, the first-ever NPE booth for the plastics company in Clinton, Mass.
Other news from the NPE2009 space draw came from resin company Sabic Innovative Plastics.
Sabic took a 12,000-square-foot booth in the new McCormick Place West building. Last year, Sabic bought GE Plastics, which skipped exhibiting at the 2006 NPE. GE Plastics was one of the original exhibitors at the first NPE in 1946.
Typically, machinery makers, materials companies and other suppliers are the main businesses that exhibit at NPE shows. Plastic processors normally are the attendees. But the time is right for Nypro to show off its capabilities, said Al Cotton, corporate communications director.
``We're a plastics company. We're not just a molder anymore,'' Cotton said Feb. 19, after Nypro had selected its 900-square-foot booth space.
Cotton said 50 percent of Nypro's sales come from nonmolding work like design, mold building, decorating and assembly.
``It's an opportunity to for us to show the industry that we're multifaceted,'' he said. ``Now the plastics industry is our audience.''
The Washington-based Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. held the space draw Feb. 19-20. NPE2009 will be June 22-26, 2009.
Nypro is a first-time exhibitor, but the company got a relatively early draw by using the slot of its former robot-making subsidiary, Automated Assemblies Corp., Cotton said.
Automated Assemblies has exhibited at past NPE shows. Shortly after the last NPE, in 2006, Nypro merged Automated Assemblies into its in-house automation operations.
