Gneuss Kunststofftechnik GmbH of Bad Oeynhausen, Germany, has introduced its Multi Rotation System, or MRS, a machine for evacuating, or degassing, the polymer melt.
The single-screw machine has a patented multiple-screw section, so it makes a very large area available for degassing, even with a low level of vacuum, Gneuss said. That makes it possible to extrude undried PET bottle flakes or pellets. The MRS technology can provide 100 percent dehumidification of PET, while increasing the intrinsic viscosity of the material, the company said.
Gneuss also has a new generation of its SFXmagnus and RSFgenius rotary melt filters.
The SFXmagnus has a new method for heating, and an airtight, encapsulated design that prevents chemical reactions with the melt. By replacing the hydraulic drive with a pneumatic drive, the firm has reduced the price by up to 20 percent, it said.
On the RSFgenuis, Gneuss has increased the filtration area up to 20 percent, while reducing the energy needed to heat the unit.
The company also showed a redesigned range of mercury-free melt-pressure sensors.
The U.S. operation, Gneuss Inc. is in Matthews, N.C.
