Polypore International Inc. has purchased battery separator maker Microporous Products LP, boosting the capabilities of its own battery parts-making subsidiary.
Charlotte-based Polypore announced the $76 million acquisition March 3.
Microporous of Piney Flats, Tenn., makes plastic and rubber battery separators for golf carts, and automotive and power-storage products. Polypore's Daramic LLC subsidiary makes thermoplastic battery-separator membranes. The purchase will broaden Daramic's product offerings and improve production capacity.
Polypore does annual sales of $550 million making membranes used in filtration for medical products as well as the separation of gases and liquids.
