Blow molder Plastipak Packaging Inc. has expanded into Italy.
The Plymouth, Mich., firm bought two PET preform facilities from M&G Group of Tortona, Italy, for an undisclosed amount. It acquired Europa Preforme srl, an integrated PET resin and preform maker in Verbania, and Preforme Sud srl, a preform facility in Anagni.
Plastipak said the two operations have been renamed Plastipak Italia srl. They employ a total of about 200, Frank Pollock, president of international operations, said in a telephone interview from Plastipak's European headquarters in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Italian operations report to Bratislava.
The deal combines the management of the acquired companies with Plastipak's leading technology, strong customer relationships and business process expertise in a way that supports Plastipak's continued growth in Europe, the company stated in a March 10 news release.
The added scale, technology and license agreements, combined with geographic leverage, will bring value to Plastipak's European and global customers, the firm said.
The acquisition closed Feb. 29.
Plastipak's other plant locations in Europe are in Prague, Czech Republic; Kechnec, Slovakia; and Bascharage, Luxembourg.
