Brunswick Corp. will sell its Baja composite boat assets to Fountain Powerboat Industries Inc., closing boat production at its Bucyrus, Ohio, plant.
The two companies did not disclose details of the acquisition, announced March 20.
Brunswick Chief Executive Officer Dustan McCoy said the company wants to ``refine'' its product portfolio and focus on other marine segments.
Lake Forest-based Brunswick purchased the Baja business in 1995.
The power boats are 19- to 42-feet long and are produced using the Seeman Composite Resin Molding Process, a closed-mold technology, more commonly called Scrimp. Brunswick employs nearly 300 in Bucyrus.
Fountain Powerboat of Washington, N.C., uses fiberglass to make its boats, which range from 31-48 feet in length.
