Injection mold toolmaker Master Precision Global LLC is investing $7.25 million to create a new manufacturing base in Duncan.
The Greenville, Mich.-based company plans to tap into a wide array of customers in the region with the South Carolina location, said MP Global President Stephen Drake in a March 19 news release.
``The Southeast is the premier manufacturing region of the country,'' he said.
The company will jump-start its production by using 42,000 square feet of manufacturing space at Spartanburg Community College's Tyger River Accelerated Business Center until it builds a permanent home.
MP Global expects to hire as many as 120 people. The company makes a variety of tools including molds used in two-shot injection molding. It also produces subassemblies.
MP Global is part of Master Precision Products Inc., which includes a custom molding unit and a test specimen molding unit, also in Greenville.
MP Global works with an international network of mold makers to produce tools from countries including Portugal, Hungary, South Korea, China and India. The Greenville office oversees production and delivery. Master Precision also has its own mold-making unit in Greenville.
