Cereplast Inc. extends its line of compostable resins with a freeze-tolerant grade.
CP-INJ-13 retains structural rigidity at low temperatures, making it well suited for frozen-food applications such as ice cream containers. The polylactic acid-based polymer has good flexibility in subzero applications, according to Hawthorne, Calif.-based Cereplast. Compared with conventional PLA resins, tensile elongation is about 10 times greater and notched Izod impact strength is about five times greater. The product provides structural integrity at temperatures as low as -31° F compared with about -4° F for standard PLA resins.
