Graham Packaging Co. LP has laid off 60 workers at its Harrisonburg, Va., pharmaceutical bottles plant.
York-based Graham has notified furloughed employees of a call back at the end of May, said Taylor Howell, field manager of the Virginia Workforce Center in Harrisonburg. He would not provide the date.
Graham spokesman Don Sarvey said the plant, which employs 320, will shift from a seven-day to a five-day workweek. He would not say if all the employees will be recalled.
Graham reported a 2007 loss of $206.1 million on sales of $2.49 billion. Profit fell 71 percent from 2006, when Graham reported a loss of $120.4 million on sales of $2.52 billion.
Graham also announced recently that it will close a factory in Edison, N.J.
