DAK Americas LLC of Charlotte has completed the purchase of two Latin American PET production plants from Eastman Chemical Co. of Kingsport, Tenn.
One plant is in Zarate, Argentina; the other is in Cosoleacaque, according to an April 3 news release from DAK's parent firm, Alfa SAB de CV of San Pedro Garza García, Mexico.
An Alfa spokeswoman declined to reveal the purchase prices. A definitive agreement to acquire the plants was signed in September.
DAK owns three other PET plants, in Charleston, S.C.; and Wilmington and Fayetteville, N.C.
With the purchase of the two complexes from Eastman, DAK has increased its total PET production to close to 1.9 billion pounds per year, Alfa said. The two new plants have a combined capacity of 738 million pounds per year.
Alfa, headquartered in Mexico City, is one of Mexico's largest private corporations.
Alfa's other interests are in aluminum auto parts, frozen food and telecommunications. Alfa is headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico.
