Swiss industrial group Georg Fischer Corp. has agreed to purchase Canadian pipe distributor Alfa Plastics Inc. for an undisclosed sum.
The deal is scheduled to close in the third quarter.
Brampton, Ontario-based Alfa Plastics is ``a specialized distributor of plastic pipes, fittings and valves for water treatment, chemical processes and other industrial applications with annual sales of about [US$4.3 million] and 20 employees,'' according to a Georg Fischer news release.
Company officials plan to rename the distributor Georg Fischer Piping Systems Ltd.
The deal is designed to enhance Schaffhausen-based Georg Fischer's sales presence in Canada and expand the sales outlet for products being manufactured by Shawnee, Okla.-based Central Plastics Co., which the company acquired in the spring.
Central has about 500 employees and annual sales of about $80 million. The company injection molds tapping tees, flex restraints, couplings and other products used to join polyethylene pipe.
Georg Fischer serves the same markets in Europe and Asia with it GF Pipe Systems division. The company also manufactures precision machinery and metal automotive parts.
Georg Fischer already has plants in Little Rock, Ark., and El Monte, Calif.
Alfa Plastics in Brampton will be converted to a ``wholly owned sales, service and stocking point for Canadian customers,'' said the news release.
