GLS Corp. is launching a series of thermoplastic elastomers designed for dynamic-seal gaskets and static-seal stoppers for the health-care industry.
The new specialty Versaflex TPEs are phthalate-free materials that combine the performance, design flexibility and cost benefits of TPEs with traditional thermoset elastomers. They also don't contain halogens, polynuclear aromatics, nitrosamines and other additives that can be controversial.
GLS said the new elastomers are particularly clean; have low permeation, leachables and extraction; and provide effective sealing performance to safeguard the integrity of medical fluids. They can be overmolded onto polyolefins.
GLS of McHenry, Ill., recently was acquired by PolyOne Corp. of Avon Lake, Ohio.
