Magic MP SpA of Monza, Italy, introduced the UE hybrid series of economical continuous extrusion blow molding machines.
Magic said UE is designed to counter the high cost of the euro, yet still offer a blow molding machine made entirely in Europe. The line uses the same components as Magic's IB hybrid line, at a significantly lower price.
The firm is offering five UE models, in both single- and double-station setups, to make containers from 15 ounces to 1.3 gallons. Magic also is selling a long-stroke model, the XL.
The UE has a Siemens controller, with a color monitor.
Ferruccio Giacobbe, Magic's owner and general manager, said firm decided to look for production savings inside Europe, rather than move production offshore and risk losing control over proprietary designs, such as its mechanism for electrically driven linear-movement mold transfer.
The solution, Giacobbe said, was to subcontract out some of the machine parts and subassemblies to smaller, trusted machinery firms in Europe. Magic does final assembly and testing of the UE machines at its factory.
Magic continues to produce all of its IB line and its fully electric EP and ME machines, in Monza.
Magic's U.S. sales office is in Ellwood, N.J.
