Sumitomo Plastics Machinery America LLC introduced a high-speed double-shot series of all-electric injection presses, called SEHS-CI.
The two-shot machines come in two clamping-force sizes, 253 tons and 308 tons. The direct-drive presses combine Sumitomo's all-electric motor technology, found on its high-speed SE-HS series, with two injection units and a rotating mold plate. The mold rotates 180 degrees in 0.8 second, which Sumitomo said is twice as fast as the typical rotation.
Mold open and close speeds also are fast, at 51.2 inches per second. Another feature reduces cooling times through an optional four-circuit temperature control piping. Wide mold spacing accommodates both single- and two-shot molds.
SEHS-CI machines are available with a choice of injection units, screw diameters and screw types for shot sizes from 2.9-10.7 ounces.
The double center press platen design is used on the SE-HS and SE-HD machines. That design ensures superior balance of pressure throughout the central surface area of the double-shot mold. It reduces platen deflection and gives better protection of mold and core pins.
The platen design also can reduce clamping force requirements by 20-30 percent. When combined with wide mold spacing, that can allow molds be run on smaller machines.
The two-shot presses come with Sumitomo's N-9 controller.
