Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. caused some raised eyebrows by not bringing any machines to Fakuma 2008, held Oct. 14-18 in Friedrichshafen.
A few competing machinery makers brought up memories of NPE 2003 in Chicago. That year, Milacron had a booth with no machines, but the next NPE, in 2006, Milacron came back with plenty of equipment.
Husky global packaging manager Paulo Gomes said Husky's approach to promote partnerships, and specific solutions, and host scheduled presentations by well-known industry experts made sense.
``Fakuma is more of a business, market-oriented show. Our focus is on business discussions with the market,'' Gomes said.
Husky did display molds and hot-runner technologies aimed at medical, closures and packaging; and touted its Life Cycle Management software and 24-hour technical support.
Five speakers made presentations at the booth, including Stefan Zatti, head of sales and marketing for PET preform mold producer Otto Hofstetter AG of Uzmach, Switzerland.
Thomas Hartkämper, Husky's general manager for central and Eastern Europe, said the firm wanted to expose visitors to experts even from a Husky competitor in preform molds, such as Hofstetter.
Husky will display machines at several major upcoming trade shows, including Drinktec in September 2009 and yes ... Husky presses will be running in June at NPE 2009.
