Ascona GmbH of Meckenbeuren, Germany, reports that Greiner Extrusionstechnik GmbH — the Austrian maker of dies and vacuum calibration systems used to make vinyl windows — uses an Ascona measuring system.
Greiner uses Ascona's Promex measuring system to check profiles. In the past, Greiner technicians placed test samples on a light source, to get an enlarged picture on a projection area. Then technical drawings on parchment paper were placed on top of the picture for comparison. Measurement of each profile took about an hour.
Promex uses a scanner to measure the profile in just seconds. The data is centrally stored, and can be examined or edited by the eight engineers that work in the test department.
Also, Greiner now can exchange data with customers, including information on when the die will be completed.
