Invista (Canada) Co. will idle its Millhaven, Ontario, PET production site and lay off 100 workers.
``There is oversupply and lower demand,'' said Invista spokeswoman Jodie Stutzman. She said the company continues to evaluate all its other production sites and any decisions on them will be based on market conditions.
Stutzman said the Millhaven plant will be idled, but she could not provide any more information on its status. Nor would she disclose how many workers are in the Millhaven PET unit. Layoffs are due to begin in December when Invista draws down its inventory.
Stutzman said nylon resin production in Kingston, Ontario, and nylon intermediates operations in Millhaven are not affected by the PET cutbacks in Millhaven.
Invista Canada is a subsidiary of Invista Sarl of Wichita, Kan.
