Here's a fun story about a program I've never heard about before. This year, 64 people from Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. participated in something called Movember, a campaging that takes place in the month of November to raise money for prostate cancer research.
The fun part is the participants don't just raise money -- they also get to grow a moustache during the month of November. According to a news release from Husky, the project generated a lot of fun and laughter around the office, as everyone tried to out-grow and out-fundraise each other.
The men of Husky raised more than $19,000, and they sported some pretty awesome facial hair, too. Check it out:
The Men of Husky
Now I'm a little suspicious that all this hair was grown in just a month.
According to
Husky, the company shattered its goal and placed 16th in Canada among all participanting companies. This year 9,376 Canadian men participated in Movember, raising a total of $1,937,629.06 and placing third internationally. Globally, a total of 172,926 men participated, and although the final international tally is still be tabulated, they have raised a grand total of $16,658,056.95 worldwide to date.
All Canadian donations are made directly to the
Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada and they will go towards creating awareness, as well as, fund research of prostate cancer in Canada.
I know a lot of young men in high school and college who participate in "no-shave November," but that's all about fun, without the fund-raising angle. This seems like a much better excuse to grow a moustache, at least for just a few weeks.
