Plumbing products firm Viega LLC is preparing to relocate its administrative staff and injection molding operations into its new 439,000-square-foot North American headquarters and manufacturing operations in McPherson, Kan.
The Wichita, Kan.-based company already has transferred its logistics center, and fired up its cross-linked polyethylene pipe extrusion operations Nov. 17. McPherson is about 60 miles northeast of Wichita. The company has invested about $85 million in the new plant.
Viega will vacate its existing 180,000-square-foot, three-building campus in January, and put those buildings on the market, said Robert Boots, North American vice president of manufacturing, in a Dec. 11 telephone interview. The firm also is upgrading extrusion operations, having replaced several extrusion lines with new Davis-Standard lines.
``The extruders, customized to Viega's specifications, include 3½-inch Mark V models and high-performance adjustable extruders, the HPE-150A and HPE-75A,'' according to a Davis-Standard news release.
Viega officials would not disclose how many extrusion lines were replaced or how many they operate in total, but Boots said the new machines feature higher output rates.
He said Viega expects to ship product to customers within 24 hours of any order.
``No matter how much PEX tubing they require, we need to have the equipment to be able to do that,'' Boots said.
Viega North America is owned by Viega GmbH & Co. KG of Attendorn, Germany.
