Sugarcreek, Ohio-based door and window maker ProVia Door Inc. has acquired the assets of three companies formerly owned by now-bankrupt Jancor Cos. Inc. and immediately plans to resume production and delivery of Heartland-brand vinyl siding.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., which is overseeing Perrysburg, Ohio-based Jancor's liquidation while under Chapter 11 protection, signed off on the sale.
ProVia officials are overseeing the reopening of the 360,000-square-foot vinyl siding extrusion plant in Booneville, Miss., that belonged to Heartland Building Products Inc. They are rehiring as many of the laid-off employees as possible, said Joe Klink, ProVia's marketing projects coordinator, in a Jan. 5 telephone interview.
Company officials said they have made no decisions regarding the future of the other two companies acquired in the deal: vinyl siding maker Infinite Building Products Inc. in Olive Branch, Miss., and vinyl fence, deck and railing extruder Outdoor Technologies Inc. in Macon, Miss.
Heartland employed about 200 when it shut down Oct. 25, and will reopen with about 50, said Gerald Williams, executive director of the Prentiss County Development Association.
``[ProVia] is utilizing local management staff. They're concentrating on having those key personnel back in position so that the quality remains the same. I think they're doing everything correctly to get it back going at the level it was at as quickly as possible,'' Williams said.
``They've been a very professional and likable group to work with. If the economy gives them any chance at all, I think you will see them growing very rapidly.''
Some of Heartland's supplier agreements were terminated when the plant shut down without warning in October, and ProVia officials are now working to fill orders and win back as much of the lost business as possible.
The company's name will change from Heartland Building Products to Heartland Siding by ProVia, Klink said. The business will be run independently of ProVia's window and door operations in Ohio.
ProVia is a 30-year-old company formerly made up of Precision Entry and Sugarcreek Industries. The company changed its name to ProVia on Jan. 1, 2008.
The company employs 385 at three plants in Ohio, where it fabricates aluminum storm doors and windows, vinyl patio doors, and vinyl and aluminum replacement windows. The company also manufactures entry doors and insulating glass.
