Bayer MateralScience LLC has obtained regulatory approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
The approval allows the Pittsburgh company to sell the product on the U.S. market. Approval covers Baytubes C150P and HP grades made in Laufenburg, Germany, in a 132,000-pound-per-year plant.
Baytubes can be added to polymers to improve mechanical strength and antistatic properties. Epoxies, thermoplastics and coating systems use the nanotubes in products ranging from sporting goods to wind-turbine rotor blades.
