Kraiburg TPE has developed thermoplastic elastomers that simulate rubber.
The Hipex line of compounds are based on ethylene vinyl acetate rubber and give properties previously only achieved in high-performance rubber, claims the Waldkraiburg, Germany, company. Hipex products stand up to temperatures of up to 338°F and resist oils, fuels and grease. Their hardness values are in the Shore A range.
Kraiburg says the lineup extends the performance range of TPEs and makes them suitable to applications including automotive gaskets and seals, hoses, tubing and wire and cable. The compounds do not need a vul¬- canization step and reduce cycle times for injection and extrusion processes compared with rubber. They show high compression set and bond well in two-component molding.
