Huber Engineered Materials has developed a surface-treated magnesium hydroxide to boost flame retardance in ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers, particularly in wire and cable.
Vertex 100 SV provides good processability and physical properties. Because it is surface treated, it disperses more uniformly and reduces the rate of heat release and smoke production vs. untreated magnesium hydroxide. At the same time, it increases the limiting oxygen index that reduces flammability, claims the Atlanta-based firm.
