Dr. Peter Mooney is the founder and president of Plastics Custom Research Services (www.plasres.com), based in Advance, N.C. He is a recognized leader in the field of single-client and multiclient plastics industry market research.
Mooney holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He concentrated his coursework in the twin fields of economic development and international trade theory and practice.
Upon completion of his doctoral thesis in 1970 he headed to Dublin, Ireland, where he served as an economist within the Irish Department of Finance. From 1977 to 1980 he was a senior research officer within the Economic and Social Research Institute where along with his research work he edited the Economic and Social Review.
In 1980 Mooney returned to the United States and joined Business Communications Co. of Stamford, Conn., a leading materials market research firm. He served as vice president and head of the Plastics Research Division of this company until 1993 when he left to establish PCRS. Over the past 28 years he has researched and published more than 75 multiclient reports on diverse plastics subjects and conducted more than 75 custom research projects for domestic and foreign plastics industry participants.
In addition to his "day job" as a plastics industry market research analyst, Mooney taught evening courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, economic development and international trade at the Stamford branch of the University of Connecticut from 1982 to 1995.
Mooney has organized and made presentations to numerous domestic and foreign plastics industry conferences. He is a member of several plastics industry organizations, including the Society of Plastics Engineers, the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the Association of Rotational Molders International.
