Plastics shapes distributor Piedmont Plastics Inc. has expanded its presence in Canada with the acquisition of Warehoused Plastic Sales Inc.
Terms were undisclosed.
Piedmont Plastics of Charlotte, N.C., bought Warehoused on Jan. 1, adding five Canadian locations to its operations: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Brampton and Kitchener, Ontario; and Toronto.
Piedmont already has a Toronto site.
[Warehoused] ran a good business and has a culture that goes well with ours, said Piedmont co-owner Chip Whitfield, in a telephone interview.
Piedmont now runs 32 distribution locations in the United States and Canada.
Warehoused does a significant amount of clarity sheet and signage business. Its association with Piedmont will broaden its product offerings, said Warehoused's former co-owner, Mike Willoughby. Willoughby is now Piedmont's general manager for Canada and an adviser.
He and his partner, Roy Jeffers, decided to sell Warehoused to Piedmont because it was a good offer for the times, Willoughby said.
Warehoused formerly was allied with distributor Prisma Plastics International Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Prisma said it will continue to distribute a broad range of plastic shapes through its alliances with Redwood Plastics Corp., a division of Redco Group of Langley, British Columbia; and with Groupe PolyAlto of Québec City.
Those plastic shapes include clarity products like the ones Warehoused carries, according to Prisma.
