Remco expanding Indiana warehouse
ZIONSVILLE, IND. Plastic implements designer and marketer Remco Products Inc. plans to spend more than $1 million to expand its warehouse in Zionsville.
The firm plans to break ground in April and complete building by fall, according to Remco President Dave Garrison. Remco wants to add 23,000 square feet of space to its current 21,000-square-foot warehouse, he said by phone.
The firm needs the space because sales have been growing at about 10 percent per year, though 2009 sales growth probably will be less than that, he said.
It's a good time to buy, Garrison said. Because of the recession, steel prices have fallen and Remco's builder has more time to devote to the warehouse project.
A local, undisclosed injection molder makes Remco's plastic items, which are sold through a network of distributors, mainly to the food-processing industry. Its lineup includes shovels, scrapers, scoops and paddles. The firm does some assembly in a 6,000-square-foot work area.
The business employs 19.
Meridian Mexico site to add compounding
ALLEN PARK, MICH. Meridian Automotive Systems Inc. will build a compounding line at its new Saltillo, Mexico, site to make sheet molding compound material for in-house use and to sell.
In Saltillo, the Allen Park-based auto supplier makes composite parts for commercial trucks.
The company will compound material for those parts as well as for other thermoset production in Mexico, to support the growing mass production of trucks, cars, industrial and consumer products in the region, Richard Newsted, president and chief executive officer, said in a Feb. 4 news release.
The Saltillo factory will have capacity for 75 million pounds of SMC per year, to supplement its existing compounding capacity in Grabill, Ind.
Thermoformer adds thin-gauge machine
MINNEAPOLIS Brookdale Plastics Inc. has added a Sencorp in-line thermoformer with a 36-square-inch bed, and a Stratasys three-dimensional printer.
About 60 percent of the Minneapolis firm's thin-gauge packaging goes to the medical market, and the rest to retail outlets.
Brookdale employs 60. The firm does not disclose sales, but said sales rose 10 percent in 2008.
