NatureWorks LLC has debuted an improved injection molding grade of its Ingeo polylactic acid biopolymer.
IngeoT 3251D improves productivity through shorter molding cycles. Molds and screws are the same as those used for styrenics. In some cases downgauging is possible and there is a potential for energy savings.
The Minnetonka, Minn., company says the new polymer is designed for semidurable consumer products such as electronics, cosmetics, housewares, toys and custom molding. It allows sustainable practice while retaining properties found in oil-based plastics.
