Axel Plastics Research Laboratories Inc. has developed a blend of modified polymers and organic fatty amides that improves the scratch and mar resistance of automotive-grade thermoplastic polyolefins.
Axel, of Woodside, N.Y., says MoldWiz Int-35cpd reduces scratching at loading levels as low as 1-2 percent. At this addition rate, no scratching was evident at 2.25 pounds of force; low-depth scratching occurred at forces up to 4.5 pounds.
Axel claims the additive's benefits include reduced resin viscosity in extrusion and as much as 3 percent less ejection force in injection molding, and that it has no effect on modulus, peak stress and thermal properties.
