PolyOne Corp. has unveiled the first commercial compounds made from Eastman Chemical Co.'s Tritan copolyester.
PolyOne has developed 16 high-performance grades based on Tritan within its Edgetek compounds portfolio. The grades, reinforced with glass and mineral fillers, are touted as alternatives to polycarbonate.
In addition to the absence of bisphenol A, the Tritan products are inherently chemical resistant and water stable. They are well suited to end uses where heat and chemical attack are common, as in kitchen appliances, reusable food containers and infant-care items. The new Edgetek products also feature durability, impact resistance and processing ease.
Under the terms of a market development agreement, PolyOne is the exclusive compounder and marketer of filled Tritan in North America.
