BayOne Urethane Systems LLC has a new moldable, flexible urethane foam that can be made at low densities.
Bayfit 500 can be molded over a range of hardnesses and in densities as low as 2.7 pounds per cubic foot. Conventional, competing foams can be made at densities of 3.1 to 3.8 pcf, according to the St. Louis, Mo., company.
BayOne developed the foam mainly for seating and cushioning. Its low density allows a 15 to 20 percent reduction in material usage. The two-component foam is water-blown and formulated with 100 percent diphenylmethane diisocyanate. Properties are similar to standard MDI-based flexible foam products.
