Over the past few weeks, many companies have been rumored to be pulling out of NPE2009. We've been careful to avoid publishing rumors, so we never wrote that Toshiba Machine Co. America was among the dropouts. Today the company took the unusual step of putting out a news release confirming that Toshiba is coming to NPE. It said, in part: "We want to let the industry know, here and now, that we are firmly committed to supporting NPE and our Industry," said Toshiba Machine Sales Manager Tom McKevitt. "While other manufacturers have voiced the possibility of pulling out of the show, we have not once veered from our position." "We believe in the NPE show and its impact on our worldwide marketing success," he added. "For Toshiba Machine, NPE is our summer Olympics games -- the major international event that occurs only once every few years. It would not be in our company's best interests to miss the premier plastics trade show in North America." So there you go. We can't write a story or post a blog item about every company in the industry's decision whether to exhibit at NPE2009. But since Toshiba says it has received a "flurry of calls" from people speculating about its plans, I'll help them set the record straight. We'll see you in Chicago, Tom.
