Sabic says Valox line helps to reduce costs
Sabic Innovative Plastics of Pittsfield, Mass., has completed its line of super high-flow Valox SHF resins.
The firm has added new grades of glass-filled polybutylene terephthalate that feature enhanced moisture stability, low warpage and better weathering. They complement grades that allow thinner walls, reduced part stress, better moldability and reduced cycle time due to faster injection rate and less cooling time.
The company says the product line can replace liquid crystalline polymers where higher heat resistance isn't needed. The materials are easier to process and are less expensive.

Vectra aimed toward electronics parts
Ticona Engineering Polymers has developed a low-warpage Vectra liquid crystal polymer as part of its expansion of halogen-free polymers for electrical and electronic uses.
Vectra E488i is aimed at parts such as electronic central processing unit sockets and dual in-line memory module connectors. It improves part flatness to maintain very tight dimensional tolerances after soldering temperatures of 500° F.
Other advantages include high flow, ability to mold thin walls and fast cycle times, the Florence, Ky., company claimed.

New phthalate-free elastomers released
Elastocon TPE Technologies Inc. has developed a new series of clear, non-blooming thermoplastic elastomers.
The new Elastoco materials eliminate oil bloom on wood and other surfaces because they are completely oil-free, according to the Rochester, Ill., company. They also are latex- and phthalate-free alternatives to silicone and PVC in medical products and children's toys. Other applications could included protective feet, pads and bumpers for appliances and furniture. The new grades have hardnesses of 65 Shore A and 75 Shore A. They can be injection molded and extruded, are strong and durable, and can be overmolded onto polypropylene.
