Bottles in the storage hopper are fed horizontally into the cutting chamber with the help of feeding screws, which the company said increases the throughput by up to 50 percent. Power consumption is cut in half by using smaller motors. The cutting chamber is evenly loaded, so the granulator makes regrind with fewer fines and dust, and no fly-backs, Herbold Meckesheim said.
Coke opened the plant in January, together with its partner, Spartanburg-based United Resource Recovery Corp.
