While many companies are drawing down production in the face of the global financial crisis, Akro-Plastic GmbH is looking to expand.
The engineering plastics compounder and distributor in Niederzissen, Germany, is evaluating locations for a new, bigger manufacturing site in Suzhou, China. Speaking at Chinaplas 2009, Managing Director Ulrich Berlage said the company wants to open a new plant early in 2010.
Akro-Plastic already has a factory in Suzhou; the expansion is the result of growing local demand, Berlage said.
This past first quarter was our best in history, he said. About half of the company's China business is in automotive applications.
The economy [in China] seems to be more stable, Berlage said. We were well-positioned to deal with the [economic] crisis, but we've also been lucky.
