Canon Virginia Inc. (S32061) is hosting a coming out celebration for its mold-making unit with a raffle prize that molders can actually use an injection mold tool worth up to $50,000.
We wanted to make a splash, but also have something with a positive spin for the economy, said Brian Strangways, senior director for business development with Canon's mold-making group.
The Newport News, Va., firm, part of Tokyo-based Canon Inc. is featuring the mold giveaway during NPE2009. The firm is accepting entries through the end of September, and will pick a winner Oct. 1.
A lot of molders out there are really struggling right now, Strangways said in a June 4 telephone interview. This will help the company and the individual.
Canon has made molds in the U.S. and Japan for its own use, but recently began expanding in Virginia to make high-precision molds for a wider customer base.
To qualify for the drawing, molders must register either at the show or through Canon's Web site, and must submit a request for quote for a specific mold. Companies can submit as many RFQs as they want, and are not committed to buying from Canon if they do not win the mold.
If the value of the winning mold is more than $50,000, the winner will receive a $50,000 credit toward buying the mold, Strangways said.
