Automotive market demand is leading ExxonMobil Chemical Co. to add almost 100 million pounds of polypropylene compounding capacity at its facility in Lillebonne, France, by the end of the year.
In a June 30 news release, officials with Houston-based ExxonMobil Chemical said the new capacity is needed to meet growing demand for PP-based Exxtral-brand performance polyolefins.
A new Exxtral grade recently was approved for instrument panels, door panels and upper and lower trim in the Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner vehicles.
Exxtral materials have been used for interior and under-the-hood automotive applications, but increasingly are being specified for exterior applications, officials added.
ExxonMobil Chemical also has added compounding capacity in Baton Rouge, La., and Singapore since the start of 2008.
