Although the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. has Chicago's McCormick Place holding dates in June 2012 for the next NPE trade show, SPI is considering whether to hold the show there or elsewhere.
As is the normal case, we are doing our due diligence as we do after every NPE to make sure we are doing the right thing for the exhibitors and attendees, said SPI President and CEO Bill Carteaux in an e-mail. I think the reason that it is more visible right now is because of the number of people questioning the cost of doing shows in Chicago, because of the economic climate we are in.
Carteaux said there have been questions about the cost of exhibiting at the show since the first year he attended NPE in 1991. The discussions ratcheted up this year prior to NPE2009, held June 22-26 in Chicago's McCormick Place.
Some exhibitors have grumbled about labor union rules at McCormick Place.
Based on this, we are doing a much more thorough review than has been the case [in the past], said Carteaux.
We currently have dates held in Chicago for June of 2012, he said.
