Neutrex Inc. introduced at NPE2009 a new commercial purging compound designed for cleaning blown film and sheet lines.
Houston-based Neutrex said Purgex 461 Plus is designed for cleaning extruders that are frequently purged, and it may be used in certain lines without removing the screen pack.
Neutrex claims the use of Purgex 461 Plus results in shorter cleaning cycles, lower purging-material costs and greater reliability in controlling the release of contaminants during production runs. Neutrex also claims the compound can be used with new biodegradable and compostable polyethylene resins.
The product is a blend of linear low density PE carrier and Food and Drug Administration-approved active ingredients.
Supplied in ready-to-use pellets without fines, the purger has an operating temperature range of 250°- 450° F and is easy to remove, the company said.
Purgex 461 Plus is the firm's second purging compound introduced for cleaning extrusion equipment.
It joins a complete Purgex line for cleaning thermoplastic injection molding, extrusion and blow molding machinery.
