Maag Pump Systems AG of Oberglatt, Switzerland, has begun manufacturing its CSC piston-type continuous screen changers in the U.S. — and its U.S. operation, Maag Pump Systems Inc. exhibited the U.S.-made product at NPE2009.
Maag Pump Systems Inc. in Charlotte, N.C., handles sales, parts, service and technical support for CSC screen changers. For now, only the most popular sizes will be built here — from 116-176 millimeters.
Maag also has built one of the world's largest discharge pumps, the Vacorex 560, with a capacity of 3.3 million pounds per day of highly viscous, low density polyethylene. Differential pressures of up to 320 bar can be achieved.
Maag designed the Vacorex gear pump for extracting polymer from a reactor at maximum negative pressure.
The buyer, which Maag would not identify, replaced an older-model pump with the Vacorex 560 to increase capacity significantly.
Also at NPE, Maag introduced the Polyrex 100 gear pump, designed for a plant capacity of 220,000 pounds per hour of LDPE.
Maag said the Polyrex is energy efficient. Differential pressures of up to 250 bar can be achieved, with the smallest possible energy consumption. The company delivered the first two Polyrex gear pumps earlier this year.
Maag also announced its Extrex Synchro drive, a new generation of gear pumps for conveying plastics with a high degree of filler, such as coaxial cable, wood-plastic composites and battery separator foils. The company will begin producing the pump in 2010.
Extrex Synchro has direct-drive, synchronized shafts. The tooth flank position and the flank clearance can be calculated and calibrated during operation, keeping the effects of high shear and high squeezing pressure under control.
