United Solutions adding to Miss. plant
LEOMINSTER, MASS. Housewares molder United Solutions Corp. is investing $1 million in an expansion of its Sardis, Miss., plant, which also will add 20 jobs, the Mississippi Development Authority said in a June 24 news release.
Leominster-based United Solutions employs 75 at Sardis.
The firm has both injection molding and blow molding at sites in Leominster, Sardis and Gilbert, Ariz. It has not announced what it will add in Mississippi, but has said it will bring in new machines as they become available.
The state of Mississippi will provide $344,000 in tax incentives to help finance infrastructure improvements at the site, while Panola County will provide another $39,000.
DuPont-Teijin to shut S.C. film factory
HOPEWELL, VA. DuPont-Teijin Films U.S. LP plans to consolidate all U.S. PET film production to its Hopewell headquarters site. A plant in Florence, S.C., that employs 210 will shut down by the end of 2010.
Officials with DuPont-Teijin a 50-50 joint venture between DuPont Co. of Wilmington, Del., and Teijin Ltd. of Osaka, Japan said in a July 28 news release that keeping the Hopewell plant and closing the Florence plant will allow us to address the structural changes in our industry, while focusing our investment efforts on our key markets. Those markets include electronics, medical and industrial as well as emerging green technology applications like photovoltaics, the release said.
The Florence plant will close in three phases, beginning Sept. 30 of this year and ending Sept. 30, 2010. DuPont-Teijin in January closed a polyester film plant in Circleville, Ohio.
Investor Group acquires LRM Industries
ROCKLEDGE, FLA. LRM Industries LLC has been acquired by a group of investors led by Zesiger Capital Group LLC of New York. The firm has been recapitalized and renamed LRM Industries International Inc.
Rockledge-based LRM was formed in 2005 as a joint venture of Nova Chemicals Corp. of Pittsburgh and New York-based Envirokare Tech Inc. It operates three large-scale production lines using Thermoplastic Flowforming technology.
LRM will produce large, long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts in a fully automated operation. End markets include automotive, military, agricultural, marine, medical, waste management, aerospace, and building and construction.
Jim Callough, LRM president and CEO, said Nova and Envirokare helped LRM transform from a technology developer to a manufacturing operation. This gives us working capital and the capability to expand our branding products, he said.
Firms team up to produce aircraft parts
FLORENCE, KY. Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., and Parkway Products Inc. have formed a joint venture to make composite components for aircraft air management systems and auxiliary power units.
Parkway-HS LLC will make composite products in a newly renovated facility at Parkway's Saltillo, Mexico, complex, said a news release from Florence-based Parkway.
Parkway CEO Joe Klunk will serve as president, and Parkway vice presidents Nick Bitter and Dan Deutenberg will serve as chief operating officer and chief financial officer, respectively.
Parkway specializes in high-performance thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, polyurethane, rubber and elastomers and injection molded magnesium.
Windsor Locks, Conn.-based Hamilton Sundstrand had 2008 sales of $6.2 billion.
PP maker Pinnacle names distributors
GARYVILLE, LA. Polypropylene maker Pinnacle Polymers LLC has re-established its network of resin distributors.
In the U.S., Garyville-based Pinnacle will be represented by Entec Polymers LLC of Maitland, Fla., and Pure Polymers LLC of Eden Prairie, Minn, the firm said in a July 17 news release.
Pinnacle's Canadian distributors will be Entec, Pure Polymers and SM Enterprises Inc. of Fergus, Ontario. Its Mexican distributor will be Longhorn Polymers of Houston.
Pinnacle has annual capacity for almost 1 billion pounds of PP in Garyville, including homopolymers, random copolymers, impact copolymers and ultrahigh-impact copolymers.
