Belgian vinyl flooring manufacturer IVC Group is investing $70 million in its new U.S. headquarters a behemoth 520,000-square-foot plant and corporate office building on 44 acres in Dalton, Ga.
It will be the company's first plant in North America.
The IVC US Inc. plant will feature the world's longest vinyl production line about 1,100 feet, officials said. The facility is scheduled to open in January 2011 and will employ 115.
IVC already has a 220,000-square-foot distribution center in Dalton. The company operates another in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
IVC extrudes fiberglass-backed vinyl flooring products. Parent company IVC Group is based in Avelgem, Belgium, and claims to be the largest manufacturer of residential sheet vinyl in Europe.
This is a key strategic decision for us, IVC Chairman Filip Balcaen said in a news release. It is a clear signal of our long-term commitment to the U.S. market and our desire for continued industry leadership.
IVC officials are looking to capture U.S. market share with this move.
Stefaan Debusschere, vice president of marketing and sales, said having manufacturing in North America will allow for special-request designs, shorter time to market and larger selection of products, widths, and finishes.
