Indev Gauging Systems, which makes controls and measurement systems for continuous web processes such as film, has introduced the Smart Frame.
Like Indev's existing O-frame, Smart Frame offers beam-welded construction and precision guide rails. The new frame has built-in controls and uses Indev's multisensor head, which can plug in up to five sensor types, for simultaneous measurement.
In other news, Indev has signed a licensing agreement teamed with Filmetrics Inc. of San Diego to adapt Filmetrics' technology to continuous plastic and film web measurement applications. The latest addition to Indev's family of sensors is called Filmetrics Spectral Reflectance technology, billed as a simple, cost-effective optical-measurement technology for non-contact film applications. Using a light source perpendicular to the film surface, the unit measures the amount of light reflected from the film, or the layers of the film. The data then is correlated to the material composition and the layers/bands of the multilayer film measurement settings.
