Tutco Inc. is moving production of its heating elements and sensors to Cookeville, Tenn.
Tutco bought the U.S. heating element and sensors business from Fast Heat Inc. in early 2008 and has been manufacturing those products at Fast Heat's Elmhurst, Ill., plant.
Tutco is making the move to keep costs down by using extra space at its Cookeville headquarters plant, said regional sales manager Nick Marocchi. The firm has Underwriters Laboratories testing facilities there.
So far, cartridge band and strip heaters have been moved, with thermocouples, temperature sensors, hot runners and components to be next, he said in an e-mail. The move is expected to be completed by year's end.
Fast Heat is Tutco's only plastics business. The firm also designs and makes heating components for refrigeration, heating, venting and air conditioning, laboratory equipment and other markets.
