Munich-based KraussMaffei AG introduced two products for polyurethane processing: a data capture system and mixing heads designed for the appliance industry.
The PUC08 data system is user-friendly and reliable, according to the company.
The unit gives an overview of the whole system, from the mixing and metering machines to the mixing heads, the molds and mold carriers.
The PUC08 comes with a 15-inch touch screen and function keys, a number pad, cursor keys and system-specific keys that can be configured for different functions.
To permanently display frequently required data on the right of the screen, the user simply presses a button, similar to storing stations on a car radio, KraussMaffei said.
For appliance makers, KraussMaffei has rolled out new versions of its transfer mixing heads — the MK12/18-ULP-2KVVG and MK 16/25-ULP-2KVVG, and the MKE-3B linear mixing head. They have dramatically improved service lives, the company said.
KraussMaffei embarked on its most intense redesign project ever for these mixing heads, in response to the increasing use of pentane as a blowing agent. The very sticky reaction mix produced by pentane systems can cause serious wear in processing machinery.
The two transfer heads are now available with improved hydraulics for use in making rigid PU foam. They can be supplied with a longer discharge tube for easier access to hard-to-reach areas, deeper insertion and the best positioning in the mold. Another improvement is a cap to keep the PU components separate from the hydraulics of the mixing head.
To offset the effects of sticky pentane, engineers came up with a new solution for the metal surfaces that contact the PU: a friction-optimized bushing with a specially hardened surface and a patented spiral groove on the cleaning piston. These modifications reduce wear.
The new version of the MKE linear mixing head has special wear protection. It also operates on the “T” mixing principle, to give outstanding mixing performance. One of the PU components is pumped into the mixing changer via two nozzles.
The other component hits this stream at right angles. Before the mix goes into the mold, the compound passes a series of calming pins, to eliminate turbulence.
