The Coca-Cola bottling system has purchased nearly 2,000 new blow molds from Sidel Group for Coke's new On-the-Go bottle.
Sidel has beefed up its mold production by last year opening two packaging and tooling centers, in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Beijing.
The On-the-Go bottle shape replaces the traditional Coke contour bottle for small sizes of about 12, 15 and 18 fluid ounces. Sidel said Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. launched the bottle in China in late 2007, then extended it to Europe and North and South America.
Sidel's centers concentrate all packaging development skills in one side, including bottle and mold design, as well as manufacturing of blow molds.
Sidel, based in Le Havre, France, also operates packaging and tooling centers in Octeville-sur-Mer, France, São Paulo, Shanghai and its U.S. headquarters in Norcross, Ga.
