McCormick Place is trying to be more competitive. Really. Just this week they dropped the price of four cases of Pepsi from $345 to $293. That's the story from the Chicago Tribune, whose reporters are well aware that a complaint about the price of Pepsi was one of the defining moments in the debate that convinced the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. to move the NPE 2012 and 2015 trade shows to Orlando, Fla. The Tribune notes that McCormick has quietly implemented a cash-and-carry system, where exhibitors can pick up bulk items rather than pay for delivery. For now the reduced prices only apply to cases of water and pop, and coffee. The story notes that the savings aren't huge, "But the soda price has been an emotional issue here, even though the price levels aren't unique to Chicago."
Pepsi in Chicago now only $293
