Trex Co. Inc. has launched a new deck board, made of wood-plastic composite, that company officials are calling a game-changing product.
Trex Transcend is a coextruded board featuring 95 percent recycled content. The surface is a proprietary nine-element surface formulation that resists stains, scratches and mold with a distinctive and natural-looking, high-definition wood-grain pattern, a company news release said.
Winchester-based Trex officials declined to reveal any of the materials that make up the boards' coextruded cap.
Transcend boards are protected on three sides and are two to three times thicker than other coextruded protective layers on competitive products, the company said.
Information was not disclosed regarding price, whether the product is being extruded in-house at Trex or where Transcend will be available.
The product is to be shipped to distributor partners Jan. 4.
