Jack Gallant remembered for warmth
LEOMINSTER, MASS. Jack Gallant, 77, a longtime employee of AlphaGary Corp., died Dec. 28 in his home after a brief illness.
According to the Leominister-based compounder, Gallant was a pioneer and well-known expert in PVC and thermoplastic manufacturing, with more than 50 years of experience. He worked nearly full-time until his death, most recently as color management director.
While Jack brought tremendous spirit, dedication and innovation to the development and growth of plastic compounding, his true legacy is the sincere warmth and joyous love he and [his wife] Betty have deeply instilled within their family, said Bob Gingue, AlphaGary's managing director.
He was so important to so many. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Gallant served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-52, stationed in England and deployed throughout Europe and North Africa. Prior to joining AlphaGary, he worked for Great American Chemical Corp., Abbott Industries Inc. and Lynn Plastics Co.
NewAge Industries' R. Baker dead at 91
SOUTHAMPTON, PA. Raymond Baker, founder of tubing and hose extruder NewAge Industries Inc., died Jan. 28 following a brief illness. He was 91.
Baker founded the company in 1954, initially to import hardness testing equipment from Italy. On a business trip to Europe he came across a new product braid-reinforced PVC hose which he began importing to the U.S.
In 1998, Baker sold the company to his youngest son, Ken, and maintained his position as chairman until his death.
Today, Southhampton-based NewAge manufactures plastic tubing and rubber hose for a variety of industries, and its AdvantaPure division specializes in clean products for the pharmaceutical, biomedical, food, beverage, chemical, and cosmetic industries.
Baker was an avid tennis player into his 90s, as well as an ardent reader and gardener. Other interests included jogging, walking, volleyball, and skiing, and he was a lifelong member of the Philadelphia Ski Club.
