The newest free-standing business entity at Modified Plastics Inc. has remodeled 6,000 square feet and invested nearly $100,000 for material identification, physical testing and reverse-engineering equipment.
Plastics Analytical Laboratory, established in June 2008, employs seven performing material analysis, product development, technical processing support and quality-assurance testing such as failure analysis. The new unit has provided technical polymer services for a medical-device maker and a high-profile lifestyle product maker, officials said.
MPI, a custom compounder of engineering resins, PAL and Color Science Inc., which offers color concentrates, dry color and color matches, occupy adjacent buildings in Santa Ana, Calif., and together employ 90.
We have built expertise in the injection molding world, working with custom compounds and engineered polymers, said PAL technology director Brian Rubin.
In late March, PAL plans to apply for status with the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation in Frederick, Md., Rubin said.
